or
"THE SHEPHERD THAT WENT FISHING"
Joh_10:12 "He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,"
PLEASE READ - MARK 1:17-18
As I read this passage in Mark I can't help but think about mixed metaphors. :) The heart of Jesus was the Love he had for his sheep. He called to them and if they were his, they followed him. He's still calling. Is He calling you?
When I read this, I have to chuckle a little bit. GOD has a sense of humor! He's calling his sheep to go fishing! Now that's a Shepherd's Love! You do know that he Loves You, Right? He does. He calls you in Love to make a Decision and to start heading in his direction. How much does Jesus Love You!
I remember a story I was once told of a Pastor, John Fawcett. He was called and Saved by Jesus as a teenager under the ministry of George Whitefield. Whitefield was one of the preachers involved in the "Great Awakening" in England and Early America around the 1700's . Fawcett became a Pastor later and was Shepherding a small flock in Yorkshire England. He was well loved and very effective for the Lord in his ministry. He was noticed for his faithfulness and Care for his flock so he was called (Offered) the Pastorship at London Church to take over for John Gill. (I still read Gill's Commentaries). It was a huge Church!
He gave his notice to his little flock. He prepared his self to leave. After all this was a great honor and opportunity.
On the day he was to leave he was bidding his "Little Flock" farewell and he noticed that they were crying and heartbroken.
At that moment, Fawcett's heart swelled with Love for his "Little Flock"! At that moment he decided to stay and tend Jesus's Little Flock. He spent the rest of his life in relative obscurity and shortly after his decision to stay penned these words, which became a beloved Christian Song;
"Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.
We share our mutual woes, our mutual burdens bear,
And often for each other flows the sympathizing tear."
Fawcett was only reflecting the Heart of Jesus! That's what Jesus did for me! He calls to you. His heart of Love is reaching out! "Oh How He Loves You!"
Love You All, Stan
Philippians 2:14-16 NLT "Do everything without complaining and arguing, (15) so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. (16) Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless."
A man was on a ship in the middle of the ocean and became very sea sick. He was in his cabin in the middle of the night when he heard the cry out that caused cold chills down his spine! "Man Overboard" As he lay in his bunk he could hear the frantic calls from one sailor one to the other, "do you see Him?" The reply seemed hopeless, "No I can't see anything" The man who was sick in the bunk couldn't stand it any longer. He said, "I must do something, but what? Then the idea came to him. In desperation, He picked up his cabin lamp and lit it and held it up to the port hole in his cabin. Moments later, he heard the sailors again shout, "there He is!" The man was fished from the water and his life was "Saved". The man in the cabin was overjoyed. The next day he was amazed to hear the sailors talking about the overboard incident. "Where did that light come from?" It just appeared from one of the port holes and without it, the Man would have been lost at sea!" (Kindle Book, On this Day... Carl Winsor)
